Whether you live in a studio apartment or want to get more out of your small home, these tips will help organize and utilize every inch of your home, transforming it into a smart living space.
Are you having a hard time getting rid of your old things? Do you procrastinate throwing things away just in case “you need them someday”? As a general rule, if you have not used an item in the past two years, you probably won’t need it anymore! Read Ikea’s article on how to live big in a small space: Click here to gain some very helpful organization insights! Dollar stores are also a great resource for smart organization tools while staying affordable. When decluttering, be sure to check with your friendly onsite representative for our garbage disposal protocols.
Sometimes one room serves multiple purposes. You can simply use a couch to divide your main living space between a living and dining room. If you have children, the living room can also double as a play area – just make sure to get some boxes to keep all the toys tucked away in a dedicated corner of the room. Visit Thehubcalgary.ca to view all of our virtual tours and get ideas for some unique ways to set up an apartment. Are you having a hard time planning where to place your furniture in your new home? Visit Homestyler.com, simply download your floorplan and play around with furniture placement!
Sometimes your bedroom won’t have enough space for your favorite dresser. Fret not! An easy way to create that extra space is by placing a small dresser to the bottom part of your closet. You can also stack storage bins or install dividers on the upper shelf to create smaller cubbies for additional storage space.
Just because a room is supposed to serve a specific function does not mean you can’t get creative and change its purpose! Do you have a room dedicated for storage? After decluttering your house, you might find that you have a lot more storage space than you thought. You could then use this room as an exercise room or even a pantry.
When your home does not offer you a lot of horizontal space, just go up! You can purchase inexpensive shelves or boxes for your child’s room or den to store all the items that are not pleasing to the eyes. This will give your room the look it so deserves! Can’t go high? Go low! You can also utilize the space under your bed. If you have lots of books and do not have enough space to store them, you can put them in boxes and tuck them under your bed.
